DIY Autumn-inspired Jewelry – How to Make a Fall Inspired Necklace

Fall, for the designer, is a multisensory experience—filled with the crunching of leaves, the snapping of twigs, and the ambient sounds of the season. This jewelry design aims to capture the essence of fall through texture and color. The goal is to create a textured and colorful piece inspired by the crisp, wispy, and vibrant aspects of autumn. In this video, I’ll show you how to create a stunning fall-inspired necklace using Czech glass beads, a custom SilverSilk Pearlesque chain, a large resin ring adorned with pressed colorful Czech glass beads, and craft wire to make charming baubles for the focal piece. Join me as I explore various jewelry making techniques, including stringing, crimping, wire wrapping, and attaching SilverSilk End Caps to complete this gorgeous autumn accessory.

Before we dive into the magic, let's gather our tools and materials:

Tools:

  • Cutters: Essential for cutting wires.

  • Crimp Pliers (Xuron Crimpers): Combining crimping and chain nose functions.

  • Magical Crimpers: Specifically used for decorative crimps.

  • Chain Nose Pliers (Wubbers Tools): Ideal for handling chains.

  • Wide Nose Pliers (with Tool Magic coating): Used for crimping SilverSilk findings.

Materials:

  • 3ft SilverSilk Capture OR Pearlesque Chain

  • 2 • SilverSilk Double-strand End Caps

  • 4 • SilverSilk Single-strand End Caps

  • 2 • 6mm Jump rings

  • Clasp

  • 10 • 2x2 Soft Flex crimp tubes

  • 2ft • Medium Soft Flex beading wire in copper color or satin silver color

  • 8 • 10mm Blue squiggle beads

  • 4 • 8mm Faceted fire polish beads in erinite color

  • 14 • 5x7mm Top drilled drop beads in chestnut brown

  • 4 • 5x8mm Drop beads in driftwood gray

  • 2 • 14mm Faceted fire polish beads in light gray

  • 5 • 15x15 Pressed glass coin beads

  • 2 • 11x13 Starburst oval beads in an olive/brown color

  • 25 • Size 8/o Seed beads in tavertine brown

Step 1: SilverSilk Selection

Start off by picking the SilverSilk color combo that screams fall vibes. The original design had this cool pearlesque chain with an antique gold ball chain core, paired with orange tinsel and dark rose-colored wire. But if those exact things aren't around, no worries! Swap them out with a gold ball chain, brown rainbow tinsel, and burnt orange wire. It's all about setting the autumn mood with these choices.

Step 2: Pendant Design

Now, let's dive into creating the star of the show – the pendant. String different beads on a 26-gauge copper wire, using stuff like Fire Polish Czech Glass, Driftwood Drops, Chestnut Drops, Grey Goose Crystals, and Starburst Beads. Get crafty with wire wrapping to make those beaded bobbles, securing everything nicely. Twist and turn the wire with chain nose pliers to make sure the pendant is not just pretty but also stays put.

Step 3: Crimp the Beaded Strands Together

Time to make sure everything stays in place! Use double-strand end caps to connect the beaded strands, and bring in those crimps for a strong hold. Go for the double crimping technique – it's like extra insurance for keeping things intact. Carefully tuck the beading wire into the end caps and attach the beaded strands to the large resin ring using crimps. To make your crimps look like a spacer, crimp the crimps with magical crimpers to make them look like a smooth round bead and hold tight.

Step 4: Adding a Clasp

Wrapping things up! Finish the necklace by attaching single-strand end caps to the SilverSilk. Get practical with a lobster claw clasp and jump rings to close the deal. Take a moment to check the length and tweak if needed. Those jump rings give you the freedom to adjust, so make sure the necklace sits just right. And there you have it – a fab fall-inspired necklace to rock the season!

These steps break down the process in a more casual tone, making it approachable for anyone looking to create a stylish fall necklace.
